When Hope is Lost, Trust in God

Today marks the last day of the eight week study of Esther! Wow! What an amazing eight weeks! I truly have taken away so much from the interwoven themes throughout the entire book of Esther.

Last fridays post, The Current, discussed a time where I was hopeless and completely alone. This is probably along the lines of how the Jewish people felt at the end of Esther. 

The day was set for their enemy to attack a destroy and plunder without any means to protect themselves. They were crying out in mourning. 

God Couldn't Even Sink This Ship: A Lesson in Being Humble.

There is a story that has been going around for years about the Unsinkable Ship, the Titanic. Though never formally called unsinkable at the time, that truly was the opinion that went around from those who laid eyes on her. Due to that opinion, a story, which very feel could be fact (though still unproven), has circulated around about a woman being too frightened to board the ship. 

"Is it safe?" She asks the deck hand. And the deckhand replied, "It is so safe, God couldn't sink this ship." 

Though fiction it may be, the moral of the story is the same: "Never Put Your Lord God to the Test". 

Fear the Lord your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name. Do not follow other gods of the people around you; for the Lord your God is a jealous God and he will destroy you from the face of the land. Do not test the Lord your God as you did at Massah.

We have finally come to the most popular verse in Esther: For Such A Time As This. It summarizes the major theme in the book of Esther in just one sentence! God had a hand in Esther's life in order to bring her to that moment, the choice of saving the Jewish people by using her position as Queen.

Her parents dying, being cared for by Malachi, being brought to the palace unsure of her fate, and then finally being crowned Queen. Everything she suffered, endured, and enjoyed all led her to this moment and it was no accident.

Your Tongue Can Be A Snare To Your Soul.

It was a scenario that had happened plenty of times before. 

I felt hurt, my husband felt disrespected and we were fighting. 

Correction. I was fighting, yelling to be precise while my husband was attempting to have a calm conversation with me. 

I was too proud to soften my voice or stop the flow of things that were on my mind. I wasn't feeling heard, so I got louder and louder. My words got sharper and sharper. 

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

The Lesson In Waiting

Are you waiting for something in your life? Something that you have been praying for? 

A new job? A husband? To Start a Family? For your spouse to come to Christ? For God to use you for his work? 

Are you waiting, but life feels stagnate? Stuck in this place of waiting where nothing seems to be happening and you don't think God is working in your life.

Where is he? When will it all finally happen? When will this waiting period end? 

I find myself asking these questions because nothing seems to be moving forward. I am stuck in a place where all I want is for God to work in my life and in my family life. 

The problem though in asking these questions is that we expect God to go by our own timeline, when we think things should happen. We expect Him to change his plan just so that we don't have to wait any longer. 

That's not how it works because it isn't about us. 

It's about God and his plan. His Timing, Not Ours. 

Esther Study Ch 1: God Is Working, Even When You Can't See It.

What a week! 

Today is the end of the first week in the Esther Study over at Love God Greatly. As a facilitator, this first week was exciting for me! I finally got to meet the ladies I have been praying for the past month! I was a bit nervous but mostly excited to get to know these women and start friendships that I pray will continue past these 8 weeks! 

Praise God! He has placed amazing women in my groups to help hold each other accountable and provide support to each other on our life journey. Its only 5 days in and I can already see bonds forming! I can see that these are going to be a transformative 8 weeks! 

Chapter 1 of Esther was our objective this week, as well as some very well picked support verses that helped us dig deeper into analyzing our own character.
