How to Sew a Kitchen Curtains & My Favorite, Quick Late Night Treat

With my husband and I being married only a few years and having a 2 year old, we haven't had time or finances to go all out and decorate our apartment. We have our vision, and little by little we will make it all come to fruition.

Knowing my love of sewing and the color scheme for the kitchen, my mother in law picked up this super cute fabric from a yard sale or something. It used to be living room curtains so there was more than enough to make small kitchen curtains!

I love the country style kitchen look so we are going with a pale yellow and blue with a hint of green color scheme. So when she gave me this I was so excited!

The first thing I did was measure and cut it to fit my 28" by 31" window, with a few inches extra on every side.

I decided that I wanted two curtains that I could pull back during the day and let down at night. So I cut the fabric in half leaving 1 inch in order to finish it.

I ironed the fabric then I pined the sides first (iron again), after those were sewn I pinned the bottom and hemmed it to the length I needed.

Let's Take A Break!

Mixing up this Brownie Recipe from Crazy for Crust's {using her pre made brownie mix} takes only a few minutes!

I only make a small loaf pan because I am the only one who eats them in my house! More for me!

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of Brownie Mix
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 water
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
Preheat oven to 350 Degrees. Mix egg, vanilla, water together then stir in brownie mix. Finally add the vegetable oil. Pour into a greased aluminum foil lined small glass pan. Place in oven and cook for 25-30 mins.

As you are waiting for your treat...

Sew all unfinished sides.

I used some of the extra fabric to create a clasp that would go around the curtains, since we won't be putting any holes in the walls to pull them back. I hemmed it on the ends because the sides already had hemming.

By the time you are finished with everything, but the buttons, your brownie timer will be dinging! Cut with a plastic knife for easy cutting.

After all was said and done, I grabbed my brownie and drink and headed to the couch to watch a movie and hand sew the buttons to finish.

We hung them using a spring tension rod because of our apartment living we don't want too many holes in the walls. However, I have decided to hot glue loops onto the top back of the curtains so that they hang nicer!
