Not Just For Teen Girls: 10 Things for Teen Girls Review and Giveaway!

With the world full of lies aimed toward the teenage girls of today it takes a lot of love and Godly guidance to get them through their teenage years unscathed. Bullying, hormones swinging and self esteem issues are only a few things that they have to deal with. Its tough being a teenage girl, but it is even tougher to try to navigate that sea on of life without a mentor of some kind.

Its the period of gaining a new sense of independence, where your decisions could potentially make or break you for years to come.

Its the time when you realize your decisions have consequences.
Good and bad.

Personally, I am still dealing with the effects of my high school years. I did not have a Godly mentor that could guide me through the dangers of my teenage decisions, to tell me from experience that the things I wore, chasing boys, smoking to look cool, sneaking out and "following my heart" will not bring me happiness but would hurt me instead.

" "Follow Your Heart" is terrible, stupid, awful advice. The worst. It is the worst because it does not translate…

...when you hear "Follow Your Heart", you probably think:

"If I want to do something, I should do it, because my heart is telling me to." "

-Kate Conner, 10 Things For Teen Girls

My parents were there attempting, bless their hearts, but I will be the first to tell you that I was not an easy teen. I don't think they understood how to reach me to the point of me actually hearing and respecting what they said. I was headstrong on doing things my way (the hard way) and on my own every step of the way.

I made a lot of mistakes some of which I knew the consequences of then, and some that I am dealing with now. Like the time I snuck out of the house to go to a party but my mom called the police and I had to go to a group home for a short time (…long story…) I learned pretty quick not to sneak out or do things without my parents knowledge after that. Or the many many many times I had let my emotions lead which led to a ton of various mistakes (the heart is a fickle thing) a list much to long to be listed. That I didn't even realize was a problem until I became a Christian a year and a half ago.

I needed something, someone to take the risk on me
and tell me the truth.
To not let me try to figure it all out on my own. I needed someone like Kate Conner, the author of 10 Things for Teen Girls to tell me that what I do and say does matter!
And that I matter, even as a teenage girl.
Fortunately for you and/or your teen girls, you have this resource. 10 Things For Teen Girls is a book based on Kate Conner's (her own) blog post 10 Things I Want To Tell Teenage Girls.

This book goes in-depth on the MUST know, must be talked about, topics for teen girls before or while they are trying to trudge through their teenage years. It covers modesty, beauty traps of the world, our emotions, our sphere of influence, smoking (It isn't cool, don't do it.), making yourself something you aren't to gain attention and that  you are enough.

She doesn't try to sugar coat or be superficial about these topics, Kate is honest and real. She takes the time to explain WHY to your teen as well as provide conversational questions so that it starts a dialogue between the parents and the teen.

If I had a book like the 10 Things for Teen Girls, it would have changed the trajectory of my life. It could have started conversations with my parents and acted as a truthful guide as I navigated the complicated season of the teenage years. It is a book that every girl should read and reread when entering and during this crucial time in their lives - because despite what society says, what these girls do when they are teenagers do matter and can change the outcome of their future.

The best part about this book is that even though it is directed at teen girls, any woman could truly benefit from reading it. I know that as I was reading, I was learning different ways to battle things and understand things that I am still dealing with in my mid twenties.

This is not just a book for teenage girls, its a book for woman of today as a whole.

  10. In my experience, there's very little that will convince teenage girls to confide in their parents more and listen to their advice.
