God Doesn't Want Us to "Just Be Happy":
My Challenge to YOU!

A few days ago I came across this video:

Can't see the video? Click Here.

Now I haven't been able to find the full length version of this clip, however, just from this snippet I can only imagine how bad the rest of it must have been.

Let's go through exactly what she said so that I may point out why it contradicts with God's Holy scriptures.

  •  "I just want to encourage everyone of us tonight to realize that when we obey God, were not doing it for God, I mean thats one way to look at it, were doing it for ourselves.

"So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to  the Spirit, and the Spirit is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, desertions, factions and any; drunkenness, orgies and the like.
I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God."
Galatians 5:16-21

Our only reason to obey God should be to show our love and reverence to Him and His Holiness. Not to gain anything in return, if you do anything only to get something back that is selfish ambition. As she said "Only doing it for ourselves." God knows your motives, and he wants your motives to be pure and selfishness is not pure or loving. (1 Corinthians 13:5) And God specifically states in verse 21 that those who live like this, and have the "only doing it for me" attitude will NOT inherit the kingdom of God.

  • "Because God takes pleasure when we're happy. That's the thing that gives him the greatest joy this morning. So I want you to know this morning, just do good for your own self, do good cause God would want you to be happy."

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called the children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven,
for the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

Matthew 5: 3-12

No where does the Bible say that he wants us to be happy. It says that 'Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness' and 'Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say evil against you'. Do those situations should like happy situations to you? No, because God doesn't want you to be comfortable. Being comfortable would mean that you aren't going out there and sharing his gospel, and teaching His AMAZING and LIFE GIVING word! Christ was persecuted, suffered and died for US! For our sins! If that doesn't make you want to tell everyone you meet about his great love, I don't know what will.

This false teaching of "God wants you to be happy" is saying that God is ok with us doing what ever WE want as long as we're happy. God DOES NOT take pleasure in our happiness if we are sinning against him. He does not take pleasure, or find joy in us selfishly doing things just to "get to heaven" because you cannot get to heaven through your own works but through Christ's blood ALONE! (Ephesians 2:1-10)

  • "When you come to church. When you worship him, you're not doing it for God really. You're doing it for yourself because thats what makes God happy. AMEN."

"Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master,
nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him."
John 13:16

We are not greater than Jesus, and we are not greater than God. When we worship God, we are worshiping for his glory and for his honor. Because he is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. He doesn't want you to do it for yourself, he wants you to do it for HIM!

My Challenge To You!

Read the WHOLE Bible.
Start with the New Testament and then go through the Old Testament. Read Every Day. If you read a chapter or two a day, you will have the whole Bible finished in One Year

I challenge you to actually know what it says and not accept what other fallible humans say it says. Stop being a follower of good speakers and start being a follower of the GREATEST speaker, Jesus himself. The only way you can be intimate with Jesus and our Holy God is if you do the work and read the Bible.

God places people on this earth who truly are sharing Jesus and what his word truly says. However, we must be aware that satan is using good speakers to lead people astray with misuse of the Bible. It is one of his oldest tricks: misuse and just down right lies because they don't expect you to read the Bible.

Quite frankly, satan and those speakers are BANKING on you not knowing what the Bible says, so that they may say whatever it is they want.

It is up to YOU- Your responsibility to DOUBLE check what teachers of this earth are saying with the scriptures because it is Your Salvation you are risking.

"As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for the received the message with great eagerness and examined the scriptures everyday to see if what Paul said was true. As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many greek men."

Acts 17:10-12

Are you willing to place your salvation into someone else's hands?

**I am a fallible human so sometimes I make mistakes. I do my best to double check everything I write with the scriptures, however is anything I say does not match up with the Bible. PLEASE let me know. I only want to bring the truth and glory to God, so if I make a mistake I will most definitely want to change it.**

  1. YES! I totally agree! This is a great post. I also think that this kind of teaching could encourage someone to continue on with a sinful lifestyle - because it 'makes them happy'. God doesn't care about our 'happiness' - He does love us and He does want to best for us - but what makes us temporarily happy ins't always what is best.
Yeah, I sure do like this post!

    1. Thank you so much Aimee! As Christians we need to be extravagant that we are checking what others say to the scriptures because we don't want to be lead astray!
